Day 084: Today I took a photograph of the back of my head. This is just me facing a wall.

I think I need a hair cut.

MY Silent Hill Nurse Costume
Supplies I used: My Nurse Hat, Sharpies, A Lighter, My Dress, Brown, Black and Red Paint, Beige/Off-White Spray Paint, Coffee Gounds, Fake Blood (recipe included below), White Heels, White Stockings (two pair; control top) And A Whole Lotta Spanx.

So, every year my town holds an annual Zombie Walk. It’s fun on a bun.
Last year, I just wore a blood covered hospital gown and did my own make-up. Pretty boring, huh? Well, this year I decided to up the anti! I wanted my costume to be scary but not too difficult to make and, since I’m a huge* fan of Konami’s Silent Hill series, I thought what better place to start than a bobblehead nurse?

Anyway, let’s start at the top with our hat: The hat itself, I bought at Micheals***. It’s a cheap, foam rubber kiddie nurse hat. See? The decals on it come right off.
So, to get the edges to look burned, I took a dark brown sharpie marker and drew around the brim and the top left and right corners. Then, to make an aged look, I took a lighter brown sharpie, marked on my fingers and rubbed them all over the hat. I did the same thing with the red. The burn marks are exactly that. Barely hold the lighter to the hat as this IS foam and WILL melt. Accentuate your burn marks with more dark brown sharpie and Viola!

Next, is our mask: Always the most time-consuming step. I used rigid wrap for the mask. YOU SHOULD USE PAPER MACHE’. Really speed is the only pro to using rigid wrap. Say, if you decide to make your mask the day of the con, you have it done and painted in about 4 hours. Other than that, it’s messy and it flakes EVERYWHERE. It WILL get your hair and EYES. If you’re not pressed for time, go with paper mache’. Much easier AND chaper to make, easier to paint, and more comfortable to wear. And NO FLAKING. But, if you’re going to use ridgid wrap, here’s how I did it. I took one of those styrofoam head forms that they use for wigs and measured my head. You need to do this to see how much aluminium foil you need to put on your form. Like, the form is 20 inches around. My head is, 24 inch around. So, I make sure the aluminium goes out to 24 inches. Then, you coat that bad boy (or girl?) in your rigid wrap. There are instructions on the box for how to use it. Make sure you have some deep grooves and creases. That way, when you go to paint it, it will look like gash wounds. That’s what we want.
After it dries, get some off-white beigey spray paint and cover the whole head. Then, take your black paint first and get it deep into the grooves you’ve made. After that, your dark brown and, finally, your red. Let that baby dry and Viola!

On to the dress. You should make the dress yourself. Or buy the cheaper lab coat offline and modify it. Much like everything else, I got all ghetto and lazy on this and bought a Leg Avenue nurse dress. Ya’ know the kind you’re supposed to wear for your boyfriend or husband or girlfriend or whateves. I don’t descriminate. But, yeah, this dress should pretty much be for sexy time only. It didn’t dye worth a shit with the tea. I ended up having to rub coffee grounds into it and it was a huge mess. After that, I used a little paint and little sharpie and singed a few places. The blood is my own classic recipe (Karo syrup + red food coloring and a little water). I also took out the hem at the bottom. FYI.

The shoes: I didn’t do much to the shoes because really, there isn’t much I can do. They’re real leather so, unless I want to shell out for some leather dye, all I can do is rub some brown paint on them to make them look a little scuffed and fling some my the blood on them.

Now, put on your stockings and you’re pretty much ready to go! I hope this isn’t too bad for my first try. I’ll say it again because it is important, this is my first try, I am not a cosplayer and I can’t sew to save my life. I’d probably follow another tutorial.

A macro of tiny cactus hairs. My new macro lens is a 4x by Lensmate. To start with, the G7 takes awesome macros, it is perhaps its best attribute. You’re not supposed to be able to add lenses to the G7 except a couple special Canon lenses, but with an adapter you can add the Lensmate lenses. Because of the design of the G7, you basically have to have it at full extension (6x) in order for the additional lens to work (the adapter clips the field of vision otherwise), so 4x lens times 6x camera = 24x. I mean 24x magnification is way cool, but geez it’s hard to get a focus. The field of focus is very very very miniscule. No pain no gain.

Excuse the subject of this photo, but I thought it was interesting. We found this along a primitive road in the Beaverhead National Forest, in Montana. My brother, the outdoorsman, assured us that this is wolf scat, or what’s left of a meal after it passes through the wolf (Canis lupus). Apparently the wolf had eaten a lot of animal fur of some kind, along with the animal.

One of my Contacts has posted a photo of bear droppings, from North Carolina.

The area of the photo was perhaps 8 inches/3 dm across. You can see the hair more clearly, if you wish to, at the larger sizes.

Ela vem com um zilhão de acessórios o.o Fiquei impressionada! XD Além desse troço da cabeça e da pulseira de peninha azul aí da foto, ainda tem o casaco, a bolsa hipponga (QUE É MUITO LINDA, PERFEITA E DETALHADINHA *O*), um aplique de trancinha, o gorro branco e os óculos de Lolita XD~Aliás, tô cabreira com esses óculos, fui tirá-los do saquinho e as lentes saíram…Não sei se já estavam meio descolados ou se eu que fiz a cagada na bruteza, mas o lance é que não ficam mais e eu vou ter que colar de volta XD~

Outra coisa que eu amei nela foram esses cintinhos XD MUITO FOFOS, GENTEM! XD As botas de caubói também são muito lindinhas, uheuheuehuehue! São moles, diferente do sapato de drag da Tezca e do coturno da Edge XD Aí dá a impressão que é uma bota de couro mesmo, muito fofo XD

Mas o ponto alto dela definitivamente é essa pinta charmosa que ela tem XD UHAUHAUHAUHAUHA Muito linda ;o;

I decided to try to take pictures by candlelight for Halloween! They came out a little dark, but not too badly for my first try! ^_^

Virginie is wearing an outfit designed by Val Zeitler and made by Dollheart. Her wig is made by Volks, and the background is a beautiful Halloween throw I found at the Cracker Barrel. It’s hard to see, but she’s holding the black version of her Lambie.

Here’s some quick pics of this little doll, I hope they’ll be helpful for those who want to buy her.

She’s wearing Yo-SD sized clothes, albeit the pants are way too large for her tiny waist. The hoodie is handmade and fits quite well.

Her body can stand by its own but it doesn’t pose very well – she came to me with a faulty leg that tends to swivel a little and, in general, arms tend to fall down. She has elastic strings that hold the legs in place.

The wig is of nice quality, shiny and smooth.

She’s a pretty little thing… even if she’s nothing like her promo pics. :/ And I mean N-O-T-H-I-N-G. I don’t know if I’d bought her if I had seen her ‘real life’ pictures…

I got a haircut from a junior stylist, because paying normal new york city prices for someone to give me a low-maintenance unlayered cut is not okay with me. she was really reluctant to make it as short as I asked for (isn’t that the opposite of how it usually goes?) but otherwise I think it went fine.

she styled it into this sideswept bangs thing — this is what’s left of that look after my bike ride home.

This weekend, I got a haircut. I donated the hair to the charity "Locks of Love" in honor of my brother Barry who died of cancer many years ago. If you want to read the full story, from this blog post.

I wanted this to be as good as I could make it using what I had. From a photography standpoint, I’m not used to doing portrait work, so it’s probably obvious that I don’t have proper lighting equipment. The left side of the top photo is overexposed and the lower photo has a shadow on the right.

Most of the walls in the house are "need a fresh coat of paint-white" or woodgrain. In the kitchen, the walls were off-white spackle which is perhaps the best portrait background and the one I used. I didn’t want to use the camera’s flash. I’m under the kitchen light and I moved two lamps aimed on me. The lamp on the left must have been brighter.

Human hair extensions can be done in many ways by applying different methodologies. You can also choose your own hair weave styles to give a good look to your hair. Choose the styling that suits your personality and gives you the best of impression. However, hair styling methods also depends on person to person as different people have different preference and skin and other internal factors that can be deciding actor while performing hair extension procedures on a person.

Human hair extension clip in:-

This technique is the least permanent and can be very effective for long without any negative side effects such as traction alopecia associated with glue extensions. Usually, the hair weft has small toupee clips sewn onto them to give a thick look to your hair. Usually a set of clip in extensions average eight strips of human hair in varying widths from two inches to eight inches. Usually starting at the nape of the neck the hair is sectioned neatly then the weft is places onto this section with the clips open, and facing the scalp. This process is repeated again and again to fix up the hair properly.

If you really made up your mind to go for human hair extension, you must take some precautions that will give you the best results. It is advised to style both your own hair and the hair extensions before fitting them to your head. You can wear hair clips in the day time as well as in night time but make sure they needed to be removed while you off to bed. Some people wear clip ins just for nights out and others will wear them everyday to work.

For starters, human hair wigs are more expensive than synthetics.  One premium wig could set you back by a few thousand dollars.  This is obviously a big investment for the average consumer.  Mid range varieties cost several hundreds while the cheapest ones could be in the to 0 range.  On the other hand, synthetics are substantially cheaper.  You can easily find a synthetic wig that costs just a few couple of dollars.  There are also premium synthetics but they are also comparatively cheaper than the mid range human hair variety.  If you are on a tight budget, a synthetic wig could be a good option.  But if you have very special needs and money is not an issue, the premium human hair is suitable for you.

The quality of human hair wigs and synthetic wig is also substantially different.  Synthetics are made from very fine plastic filaments or synthetic fibers.  The structure is really not similar to natural hair.  They are slightly stiffer with an unnatural shine.  On the other hand, human hair pieces are similar to natural hair because they are made from real hair.  They are heavier with more volume and natural bounce.  They will feel just like your natural hair and can be styled quite easily.  Human hair pieces offer superior styling versatility.  They can also withstand heat application.  So this gives you the chance to style the wig using straightening and curling iron.

Longevity is another area where human hair wigs and synthetics diverge.  Human hair pieces can last longer than a synthetic one.  They are stronger and more durable especially if you will take good care of them.  You can regularly wash a realistic wig made from human hair without worrying about discoloration or damage.  Synthetics are less durable but they can also last longer with proper maintenance.  Synthetic pieces can not withstand heat because the plastic filament or the fine fibers could melt.  The upside is that synthetics are better in holding a curl even after several washings.

Wigs can help improve your appearance. They can make you look younger than your age.  But not all artificial hair pieces are the same.  You have to carefully select a variety that would be suitable for the shape of your face and skin tone.  Most importantly, you need to consider your budget when buying a wig.  A piece made from human hair is expensive but it has better quality compared to synthetics.  Meanwhile, a synthetic wig may not be able to match the quality of human hair but it is cheaper and more affordable.

My daughter Grier has been growing her hair to donate for wigs for children who lose their hair from chemotherapy. Yesterday was the big day! We went to the salon and she got more than 10 inches cut (25 cm). She’s been growing her hair for more than 2 years now. It was great! She is totally happy with her new stylish cut. What a great day!

During the Roman Empire, wealthy Roman women often wore elaborate hairpieces to greatly increase the volume and effect of their hairstyle.

Men, women, and children in ancient times would wear wigs for these defined one’s social status. Wigs were also useful for aging people for these covered their balding heads.

On the other hand, while the Roman people wore wigs for fashion purposes, the ancient civilizations in the Far East, including China and Japan, rarely wore wigs except actors performing in the traditional theaters of China and Japan (Noh or Kabuki), and certain types of female entertainers such as the Japanese geisha or the Korean Kisen.

As of present, wigs are still improving in quality. We now have different kinds of wigs to enjoy. Thanks to our ancestors for introducing these fashion pieces for it allows us to enjoy a variety of hairstyles in an instant!
